Restoring a 1968 Porsche 911L

April sucked. We ended up cutting out the repair we did early in March and tried replacing it again. This time the entire lockpost. It's hard to describe exactly what the problems were. Things were not fitting correctly, the door gaps were wrong and the fender edge was a nightmare. We did not want an all bondo solution and couldn't live with a botched repair. So this will be Part II of the rear fender repair. Enjoy.

Well here we are again, back at Part's Heaven. This time we went with an entire left fender. Here is Rick, Spencer and Eddie putting the clip in Rick's truck. I would have helped but I was takin pics. I took the sawzall and spend a couple hours removing the piece we needed.

Here is Rick removing the undercoating from the part. Here is another pic of the badly warped section we replaced previously. Rick is marking out where the new cuts will go.

Here is a good shot of Rick's new dolly he built for the 911. Works great. Another shot of the warped section. Well, that sort of says it all....

One thing about restores... you ALWAYS find more rust. Especially when you don't want to. Swiss cheese. Glad we caught this. It can be fixed relatively easily. At this point we couldn't get things to fit well and got really frustrated. We spent the rest of the day drinking beer.
