Restoring a 1968 Porsche 911L - The Issues

Here are some pictures documenting the car as we received it. For a car of this vintage, I think that it was in pretty good shape. The suspension pan and rear window rust is pretty common on these cars and most people who get into a project like this are used to it or at least informed enough not to be too concerned and budget for it appropriately. The car had been modified by a dealer for the Buhr air conditioning option. It was amazing to see how badly the car had been damaged by this so called "dealer" install. It's going to take a lot of patience and hard work to fix that problem.

Looks bad but it's so common that fixing it won't be so big a deal. Yep. No rust, California car .... The original undercoating was sprayed directly to the underside. It's a wonder it lasted this long!

Front fuel tank support. Battery acid tends to waste these. Also very common on early 911s. Now this is horrifying! Factory air conditioning. Would you pay someone to ruin your car like this? This is where they mounted the evaporator/blower. Contemplating the fix. A front trunk floor and front bulkhead from a donor car will be welded in for a proper "factory" repair. Not going to be easy.

Is this insane? This is from the front passenger seat! The steering column cover was hacked to make way for air conditioning evaporator and plumbing. This is just jacked.. Oh it's just surface rust. Uh huh. Yeah right. Although it looks ominous this didn't turn out to be all that bad.
