Restoring a 1968 Porsche 911L

July was a tough month trying to keep on schedule. Up to this point we've been working nearly every Saturday from 10am to 7pm and it's starting to wear on us. We figure if we don't push the project will stagnate and eventually turn into the 10 year restore. With people being out of town on vacation, including Rick himself, it's a wonder we got anything done. Here are the things we got done in July.

Here is the new suspension with it's 2nd coat of Zerorust ready to be installed. Double checking dimensions and square for the suspension pickups. You want the pan square to the rear pickups. That was actually hard. "You sure this is where it's supposed to be?" Once it's welded in it ain't comin out".

Here's Ken welding in the pan. A shot of the rear pan welds. The lateral fuel tank supports were slightly "hacked" to allow me to fit the pan and have access for welding and grinding. They will be "surgically" replaced later. Here I am doing the "cut &fit" for the "surgical" part of the lateral fuel tank supports. This sucked, and took a long time.

Here is the battery side lateral tank support being fitted. Here it is welded in and welds ground. Were almost there! Pan is in with both lateral tank supports welded, Zerorusted and seam sealed ready for the fuel tank support.

Here is Rick drilling the fuel tank support for the plug welds. The support is done. A little misc.. welding and grinding and it's as good as new. Rick going at the rear tailight buckets.

Here is a closeup of Rick chiseling out the rear tailight buckets. They seem to have a bad case of ..... rust. Intesting look at the rear fender to engine latch panel joint. Lead was used in the old days to fill the joint. Sometimes you find things that suck. Case in point. Rear Quarter panel was hit in an accident at some point. Holes filled with bondo. Can you say "Idiot".

Here are the old tailight buckets. Ouch! Hmmmm. A favorite motto of ours. Here is Rick getting ready to drop the front suspension; all in one piece!

Here is the front suspension after being removed as one unit. We took the time to get the oil sump tank pressure tested for leaks as well as boiled and cleaned. A typical Saturday at the Salt Mines.
