Restoring a 1968 Porsche 911L

One of the most common tasks done to restore older 911s to service is to replace the front suspension pan and fuel tank support. They are typically completely rusted out and in the case of the front suspension pan, hold the front A-arms in alignment. The trick is to leave the suspension pieces in place, lower the A-arms, cutout the old pan and weld in the new using the A-arms as guides. So far this is where were at. Enjoy...

We pulled the car out, turned it around and put it up on blocks at the front of the garage for better visibility. Here is the problem at hand. Rusted out front suspension pan. Another shot of the multiple issues happening in the front area.

Here I am drilling out the front spot welds of the pan. This totally sucked! It was not a fun job. Cutting out the inside pan sections. I finally figured out that you couldn't baby it. You really had to give it everything you had, hence the sawzall.

After a really hard day. So here we are now: front suspension pan is out. Need to work on the pieces under the lateral fuel tank supports but that will come. Another shot of the new "hole".
